Pandora

The Danish jewellery firm PANDORA moved into its new headquarters at Havneholmen, Copenhagen, with space for 550 employees. DEKO was in charge of the entire interior carpentry contract for 14 000m2 of floor space at water's edge. DEKO's years of experience with glass walls and this type of construction contract were of great significance to successful completion.

Glass is an aesthetic and functional load-bearing element at PANDORA's new headquarters at Havneholmen. Choosing glass walls was no coincidence. Their new headquarters consists of two buildings with six floors in each that are joined in the middle by a glass structure. It is a visually striking space. The developer and users wanted to create a low-energy building with as much glass as possible. This goal was possible due to the extensive use of glass both inside and outside the buildings. Glass provided optimal acoustic conditions while reducing energy expenses.

DEKO was in charge of all interior carpentry work at this workplace for 550 employees. The job consisted of mounting and installing doors, ceilings and walls – including many glass walls. The buildings contain more than a kilometer of window surface.

”Walking into PANDORA's new headquarters is visually striking experience. The glass walls allow daylight to reach the core of the building while saving energy and providing an enjoyable working environment. DEKO was in charge of all indoor carpentry. This project was very exciting, in many different ways. PANDORA set some pretty challenging requirements for access controls and security arrangements. DEKO won the contract because of our ability to meet those requirements and because we have so much experience solving tasks of this kind,” said sales manager Torben Rytter.

DEKO began working at the 14 000m2 building in October 2015. DEKO had approximately 20 carpenters on the job every day. The work was completed before summer vacation. The developer for the project was PFA Ejendomme A/S. The building concept was designed by SKANSKA. KPC was the general contractor. PANDORA's new headquarters is a part of the PLAZA project, which consists of the two new office buildings (II and III) and a third building (PLAZA I), which currently houses two housing cooperatives. DEKO also had the carpentry contract at PLAZA I.

”We have worked with KPC in the past at PLAZA I, so we were aware of the requirements and challenges that this building offered. The location of the PLAZA building beside the water made site conditions difficult in terms of vehicle access, but our experience working at the first building helped us resolve those issues at the second site. This experience combined with good communication with KPS's construction management team made work on PANDORA's office building go smoothly,” Rytter said.

The PLAZA building is located at Havneholmen -- a small neighbourhood alongside Islands Brygge and Kalvebod Brygge in Copenhagen. The area houses offices, luxury residential buildings, cafés and stores.
